Barbara Gross is an Associate Professor in Intercultural Education at the Free University of Bolzano, member of the Scientific Board of and lecturer at the National Ph.D. in Peace Studies at the Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), Associate Editor of the International Journal Intercultural Education, and Expert Evaluator for the European Commission (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships and Erasmus Teacher Academies). She was Junior Professor at the Chemnitz University of Technology (Germany), has taught at BA, MA, and PhD courses at the the Goethe University of Frankfurt (Germany), the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore Rome (Italy), the Birkbeck University of London (UK) and the Univesity of Gothenburg (Sweden).
Her research interests include linguistic and migration-related diversity in educational institutions and society; social, educational, and ecological (in)equality and (in)equity; and internationalization of education and educational research. Barbara Gross has received different awards for her academic achievements, including the award from the Italian Society for Pedagogy in 2022 and the Junior Research Award South Tyrol in 2023.
She is currently conducting two school ethnographic research projects, one on diversity-sensitive education and socio-ecological equity in primary and secondary schools and one on the inclusion of migrant and refugee youth in Chemnitz, Germany. In another project she is focusing on mediatizing populist discourses about migration and education through a critical discourse analysis.
