It is with great sadness to announce that Michele Malamud Kahn, our friend and colleague, passed away on May 21, 2019 after 15 years of battling low-grade ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends.
Michele was an Associate Professor of Studies in Language and Culture at the University of Houston-Clear Lake since 2004, focusing on equity, diversity, communication and language. She was passionate about teaching and all aspects of social justice, and a fighter for LGBTQ rights. She served as the Secretary General of the IAIE and Associate Editor of the IAIE journal Intercultural Education, and co-founder of the new umbrella organization World Coalition for Equity and Diversity Education (WCEDE).
Michele was known for her kindness, caring and great sense of humor. She loved her family and friends, animals, traveling (in particular, to Greece), and reading. She was always ready for the next adventure.

Michele did not speak widely about her illness, working until late 2018. Her passing leaves an empty space in our hearts; we are all better for having known her and lucky to have had her in our lives as long as we did.
The IAIE and HAIE (IAIE branch in Greece) will dedicate our next scheduled events to her memory. Please feel free to disseminate this news on behalf of IAIE Barry van Driel, President, Nektaria Palaiologou, Vice-President, Leslie Bash, Vice-President.
